THE ESSENTIALS
Before you start
- Network access may leave you paying the full negotiated price.
- Check the specific childbirth arrangement even if hospitalisation is included.
- Waiting periods, limits and authorisation require separate checks.
Read the childbirth line as well as hospitalisation
Allianz Saúde's current presentation distinguishes network-access options from options with a childbirth limit. A generic hospitalisation heading cannot replace checking the selected option. This example helps locate the answer in an actual proposal; it does not describe every health insurance policy.
Sofia marks the specific benefit and option in each proposal instead of choosing by its heading. Clara suggests keeping the version being compared: the insurer’s current table is a reading example, not confirmation of an individual contract.

Ask who pays the negotiated price
The current Allianz library identifies Saúde 229 — 03/2025_1 as applicable from 26 March 2025. Its Childbirth — Network Access section leaves the negotiated charge entirely with the insured person. For the Total option, the table specifies a 365-day childbirth waiting period where selected. These are terms in that document, not universal rules.
Clara helps Sofia record two separate answers: the payment arrangement and the applicable waiting period. Network access should not be presented as a benefit paid by the insurer. If a proposal mentions a contribution, its limits and conditions need to be located.

Compare your own expense instead of the product name
Fictional example, not a market price: Sofia receives a €2,500 estimate and the proposal only provides access to the negotiated price. There is no basis for treating that amount as a benefit the insurer will pay. Clara asks for Sofia’s expected expense and the services actually included.
Where another proposal offers an insurer contribution, ask how its limit, excess or co-payment operates and which expenses the estimate includes. Do not infer a percentage from the monthly premium. A useful comparison requires both answers to concern the same services and the provider's stated assumptions.
Record the dates and conditions beside the answer
Note the insured person's entry date, childbirth option, applicable waiting period and authorisation procedure. If pregnancy has already begun, describe the situation through the indicated channel and request an express answer about the proposal; joining does not confirm payment for delivery.
Do not postpone clinically necessary care to try to fit an insurance date. An administrative waiting-period end date is not medical advice. If the estimate or care plan changes, request updated information about expenses and conditions.
Prepare a quote request with a specific question
Sofia finishes with four comparison points instead of sending clinical reports in her first contact. Select Health when contacting RMACHADO and explain that you wish to compare maternity arrangements and your own expense. Ask about secure submission of health information if needed; requesting a quote does not activate cover.
KEEP THESE QUESTIONS
Your checklist for the next conversation
- Identify the childbirth option and distinguish access from an insurer contribution.
- Request an itemised estimate and your own expense.
- Confirm waiting periods, limits and authorisation.
- Review the answer if its assumptions change.
