THE ESSENTIALS
Before you start
- Hospital admission and transport appear as separate benefits; an answer about hospital costs does not automatically settle the journey.
- In the Multicare example consulted, the Emergency Transport condition also mentions returning home after discharge, subject to its scope.
- That document’s Non-Urgent Transport condition arranges the booking but leaves all service costs with the insured person.
Find the transport condition as well as the hospital benefit
Multicare General Terms 28, edition D0028 of September 2026, distinguish Hospital Admission, Emergency Transport and Non-Urgent Transport. Clause 3 refers to the policy schedule and individual certificate for the benefits actually contracted. All three appearing in the general document does not prove that every policy includes them all.
Sofia therefore separates the answer about hospital admission from the question about getting home. She asks for the transport benefit and her policy edition to be identified. She does not treat the word “transport” as confirmation of a particular ambulance: the document consulted makes no such promise simply because there is a hospital admission.

The emergency condition also refers to travel home after discharge
Under special condition 004, the scope depends on the insured person’s state of health justifying the transport. Its list includes travel to the nearest hospital, assessment of the appropriate means by the medical team working with the treating doctor, transfer between hospitals on medical indication, and return to the usual home after discharge. Requests go through Multicare Customer Support.
This prevents two quick assumptions: the list does not confirm every journey after leaving hospital, and the word “discharge” does not mean that only a non-urgent service paid for by the customer can apply. The condition being assessed and how its requirements are considered need to be established. Clara does not decide clinical need or the appropriate means of transport.
For non-urgent transport, arranging it does not mean bearing the cost
Special condition 023 in the same document provides a different service: arranging transport by the most appropriate means to or from home, within the policy’s terms and limits. The insurer makes the service available and books it; all costs of that service are borne by the insured person. Requests also go through Multicare Customer Support.
These are provisions of that product, not rules for every health insurance policy. Sofia may find it useful to have someone arrange the booking, but she still needs to budget for the expense if that is the applicable service. Nor should she classify the request merely because a date has already been scheduled: she asks for an answer identifying the condition used and its effect on costs.
Sofia asks for three answers about the same journey
Clara helps Sofia frame the request with the starting point, destination, planned date and case reference. She then separates three answers: which contractual condition is being considered; who arranges and selects the means under the applicable procedure; and what share, if any, she must pay. A confirmed booking explains the arrangements but must be read alongside the answer about costs.
When reviewing future protection, Sofia uses the scenario of returning home after admission to compare proposals without presenting it as an individual coverage decision. For an existing case, she clarifies it through the policy channel and sends clinical information only by the indicated means. This guide concerns the contract; administrative steps must not delay urgent help.
KEEP THESE QUESTIONS
Your checklist for the next conversation
- Find the transport condition and confirm that it forms part of your policy.
- Ask which rule applies to the actual journey rather than inferring it from admission or discharge alone.
- Separate who books the service from who bears the costs, and confirm the means through the indicated procedure.
- Keep the answer linked to the journey and case, with clinical documents in the appropriate channel.
