Computers and leisure equipment: are they on your home checklist?

Your home may have changed since the last insurance discussion. A new computer, sports equipment or other belongings may raise questions that were not on the original list. Organise what you want clarified before comparing proposals or requesting a policy review.

THE ESSENTIALS

Before you start

  • List the items you want clarified.
  • Describe their use and where they are kept.
  • Ask how the actual proposal addresses them.

A product presentation is not your inventory

As an example, Lusitania's official Casa Flexi presentation mentions the possibility of including sports items, computer equipment and other categories. This does not mean every item is automatically covered by every policy.

Use that distinction to formulate questions: which belongings do you want considered, and which terms apply in the proposal being reviewed?

Organise belongings by use

Separate equipment for personal use, leisure and items you have questions about because they are used for work. Also note where they are normally kept and what you need clarified about taking them elsewhere.

You do not need to post a photograph of your home to request an explanation. A private, factual list prepares the discussion better than pictures shared in a comment.

An inventory record can have four fields: item, use, usual location and available evidence. Fictional example: “laptop; personal and work use; home and journeys; invoice available”. This helps you ask about both the object and its use without automatically setting a sum insured or assuming protection away from home.

An example of an incomplete list

In a fictional example, Inês remembers the new computer while reviewing their equipment. Rui adds sports equipment stored in another room. They mark the items they want to discuss without concluding that any future damage would be indemnified.

The aim is not to turn the list into an automatic assessment. It makes unanswered questions visible and helps prevent a comparison from overlooking what you actually want considered.

Ask about the items and the situations

As well as asking about the equipment, describe the situation you want clarified. Being stored at home and being taken elsewhere are different questions to present to the intermediary.

Ask for the relevant terms, limits needing clarification and where these appear in the proposal documents. If additional information is requested, confirm the appropriate channel before sharing identifiers, invoices or photographs.

Keep a dated list with the reply

A dated list helps show what was considered. When you buy another item or change its use, return to the discussion and explain the difference rather than assuming a previous reply answers everything.

KEEP THESE QUESTIONS

Your checklist for the next conversation

  • List equipment that raises questions.
  • Distinguish personal, leisure and work use.
  • State where it is kept and any journeys.
  • Ask about concrete situations.
  • Keep a dated list and the explanations.
  • Review the request when belongings or use change.
