Purchase-value motor cover: is the invoice the amount you would receive?

The purchase invoice records what you paid for the car. A quotation should explain how the policy treats that figure following an insured event. Before comparing an option labelled purchase value, turn the benefit name into questions rather than treating the invoice as a promised settlement.

THE ESSENTIALS

Before you start

  • Find the option in the quotation.
  • Request the clause and period.
  • Identify accepted purchase evidence.

Identify the benefit and its wording

The Fidelidade motor table lists Valor de Aquisição (purchase value) as a separate option. That helps locate the question but does not establish the calculation for your vehicle. Request the clause, applicable period and insured events. Record the quotation version too: a benefit appearing on a marketing page does not demonstrate that you have bought it.

Fictional example: a recent purchase

Fictional example: Luís bought a used car and kept the invoice. When comparing quotations, he sees purchase-value wording and assumes the invoice settles every future loss. Before deciding, he asks whether the vehicle can qualify for the option and what evidence is accepted when establishing value. The example confirms neither eligibility nor a total-loss payment; it concerns the rule being proposed.

Compare the rule before the price

Use separate columns for the stated sum, valuation rule and relevant period. If an answer only says subject to terms, request the reference and read it with the quotation. Do not adjust figures to make different products appear equivalent. Keep unresolved questions visible, including any limits and excesses. Only then compare premiums while preserving the differences you found.

Prepare your motor enquiry

On rmachado.group select Automóvel and request a comparison of vehicle valuation, benefits and excesses. Mention purchase-value wording as a question; keep invoices containing personal details out of public comments.
