You reported vehicle theft to police: has the insurer been notified too?

Two organisations may need information about the same event while performing different roles. During an annual review, prepare the vehicle-theft reporting route before you need it; do not assume that reporting to police automatically opens an insurer’s claim file.

THE ESSENTIALS

Before you start

  • Separate police and claim references.
  • Confirm the insurer’s channel.
  • Link documents to the file.

Identify two references

Generali Tranquilidade requires police-complaint evidence to process theft. That connection between documents does not make the notifications interchangeable. Ask which insurer channel to use and how to link the police reference to the correct file. This procedure example does not confirm that your own policy includes theft cover.

Fictional example: evidence but no confirmed claim file

Fictional example: Pedro reports the vehicle’s disappearance to the authorities and receives a reference. Rather than considering every task completed, he contacts the insurer to identify the claim file and required information. He confirms receipt of the document in that file. The story proves neither theft, cover nor acceptance of payment; those are separate checks.

Make the review practical preparation

Keep official contacts and a procedure note with vehicle records, without storing credentials alongside documents you routinely carry. When comparing quotations, locate theft wording, notification requirements and requested evidence. In a real event, use the competent channels and retain replies. Do not wait for a fresh quotation before making necessary notifications.

Prepare your motor enquiry

On rmachado.group request a motor comparison of theft benefits, limits and excesses, including reporting arrangements. A new quotation does not provide retrospective cover for a known event.
