Practical guide · Registration lookup

The registration search found no insurance: what should you check?

Rui Lobo wants to check the car’s insurance and cannot see the expected record. In this fictional story, Clara Mota asks him to separate three things: a page that failed to work, a completed search without a match and the status of the contract. The uncertainty needs clarification before he relies on the insurance.

THE ESSENTIALS

Before you start

  • An unavailable page is not a completed search with no match.
  • Both registration and reference date form part of the question.
  • The policy’s existence and benefits require their own confirmation.

What the service information can establish

ASF/FGA’s public information asks for a registration and date. It lists possible reasons for a missing record, including no insurance on that date, an update delay or incorrect vehicle identification. It also asks users to confirm information with the identified entity. You cannot select whichever explanation is most convenient.

This guide discusses the service information. It gives no lookup result for a real vehicle and does not guarantee that the form is available at this moment.

Record the question before repeating the lookup

As an organisational method, Rui records the date he needs checked, the registration entered and what appeared on screen. For an earlier accident, he does not replace the accident date with today’s date. Clara asks him to distinguish a generic page message from a response actually produced after completing the fields.

A private note can say ‘form unavailable’ or ‘completed search without a record’, according to what he observed. Do not write ‘uninsured’ when you only know that you could not check. Nor should you write ‘all in order’ merely because you possess a document whose validity you have not confirmed.

Match the vehicle, period and document

Gather the policy reference, available contractual evidence and the communication that prompted the question. Through the insurer’s official contact, ask it to confirm the period in force and the vehicle identification. If there is a discrepancy, ask which entry needs correcting and how to confirm the correction, retaining the reply.

In the story, Rui needs the car for family routines and wants to clarify the question before the next journey. Clara does not authorise him to drive or decide that a contract was accepted or paid. A receipt, a proposal and an insurer’s reply must each be read for what they actually establish.

A registration does not describe all the protection

Do not use the lookup to infer own-damage cover, assistance or a replacement vehicle. For those questions, compare the current policy wording, benefits and limits. An identification found in the database does not itself complete the content of your policy.

For a future motor quotation, describe the vehicle’s use and protection priorities on the website. A quotation does not retrospectively correct an earlier gap or replace clarification of the existing contract. Keep documents in the private file without posting registrations, references or screenshots in comments.

KEEP THESE QUESTIONS

Your checklist for the next conversation

  • Check the registration, reference date and whether the search actually completed.
  • Record the observed message without turning it into a policy decision.
  • Ask the insurer to confirm the vehicle, period and any correction.
  • Read optional benefits in the policy and keep documents out of public comments.
