Amateur sport: does family liability cover harm to other people?

A leisure activity may involve injury to the participant or damage to someone else. Before asking whether «sports insurance» pays, separate who suffered harm, what happened and which contract you are consulting.

THE ESSENTIALS

Before you start

  • Own injury and harm caused to others need separate questions.
  • Describe the actual sport and use.
  • Read amateur-sport references alongside exclusions.

An example requiring the full wording

Allianz Vida Privada's public October 2023 information note lists harm caused during amateur sport in its base package. The same document indicates exclusions, including weapons or hunting and fishing equipment, and refers to the complete conditions.

A general leisure reference does not settle every activity. This example concerns that product and does not extend its scope to another policy.

Separate questions about each person

Fictional example: during a game among friends, a participant is injured and a ball strikes another person's property. Prepare separate damage accounts and ask about relevant protection for each. An answer about a participant's injury does not confirm liability towards someone else.

For the family liability enquiry, describe the event and relationship between participants. Do not admit liability or promise compensation simply because a policy exists. Facts and terms require assessment.

Describe the activity beyond its label

For a review before taking part, state sport, location and participation format. Add any club, organiser, competition or specific training and request the rule for that scenario.

Ask whether the activity is included, who is insured, who counts as a third party and which limits or excesses matter. These comparison questions do not guarantee acceptance.

Keep the relevant confirmation

Keep the reply with the policy reference and version. If the activity changes, explain it instead of relying on an answer for another situation.

RMACHADO can help prepare a family liability quote describing the private activities to protect. An actual event should follow the process under the policy in force.

KEEP THESE QUESTIONS

Your checklist for the next conversation

  • Separate own injury and harm to someone else.
  • Describe the sport and participation.
  • Check people, third parties, exclusions and limits.
  • Keep the reply for the scenario actually described.

Let us discuss your situation

Tell us what you want to protect. We review your request and help compare relevant terms. Requesting a quotation does not activate insurance.
