THE ESSENTIALS
Before you start
- The business's own costs and third-party claims need separate questions.
- Technical restoration, interruption and defence can have different rules.
- One originating incident does not establish inclusion of every item.
One identified offer separates the areas
Santander's official Business Cyber Protection page separately presents liability for certain third-party losses, system and data recovery, and business interruption. This illustrates distinct functions in one product. It does not establish that every IT expense, client or downtime period falls within your quotation.
Give costs three separate destinations
Prepare one row for restoring the business's operation, another for lost activity and a third for claims received. Identify the information source and who can verify each row. A technical quotation does not automatically establish commercial loss or an amount owed to a client.
Fictional example: a shop needs to restore its order database while a customer complains about a failed delivery. The manager retains the technical report and complaint separately. Neither is automatically classified as data recovery merely because the order system was unavailable.
Compare the intended response for each row
Ask the quotation to identify the benefit, triggering conditions, limits, excesses or relevant periods, and the procedure for engaging services. Technical assistance arranged through insurance and liability compensation are different benefits.
Also record unresolved matters: incident cause, affected systems, duration and the nature of the claim. Do not promise third parties that an insurer will pay before analysis. A global limit alone does not explain which expenses depend on it.
Use renewal to improve the exposure map
For a Cyber quotation from RMACHADO, describe the business, operational dependencies and types of information handled, without supplying client personal data or credentials in the initial enquiry. During an incident, follow the response plan and current policy channels; a new comparison does not replace those actions.
KEEP THESE QUESTIONS
Your checklist for the next conversation
- Separate restoration, interruption and third parties.
- Match each item to its benefit.
- Check conditions, limits and procedure.
- Distinguish confirmed and unresolved facts.
- Keep sensitive data out of public channels.
