Disability cover: why an abbreviation is not enough

Two quotations use similar letters and both mention disability. A useful comparison starts with the complete definition rather than a familiar abbreviation. Ask what the particular contract requires before treating the options as equivalent.

THE ESSENTIALS

Before you start

  • Read the full name and definition.
  • Consider requirements together.
  • Compare equivalent cover.

Locate the full definition

In the Allianz Vida Crédito wording consulted, IAD stands for Invalidez Absoluta e Definitiva (absolute and definitive disability), and ITP for Invalidez Total e Permanente (total and permanent disability). Their criteria differ: IAD includes needing another person’s continuous help with daily activities, while ITP also considers occupational criteria. Read the complete definitions and other product requirements; these descriptions do not determine eligibility in an individual case.

Organise questions about the occupation or activity considered, permanence and required criteria. Where a percentage appears, ask which assessment or rule it refers to. An isolated number does not explain every requirement.

A documentary comparison example

Fictional example: Inês highlights a sentence about occupation in one quotation while Rui finds a different reference in another. Instead of choosing by abbreviation, they compare the complete names and definition page references.

They flag what they cannot yet compare and request an explanation. They do not conclude that a medical condition qualifies for cover or circulate a clinical document in a group to obtain that answer. The exercise concerns reading documents, not clinical or claims assessment.

Add the other conditions and limits

After the definition, clarify exclusions, recognition conditions, duration limits and the sum applicable to the cover considered. Ask for an answer identifying the quotation version rather than combine requirements from different products.

Keep confirmed differences and outstanding questions. Do not publish medical reports, disability percentages or identifiers in comments. Visit Life Insurance on rmachado.group to prepare a request. Individual assessment belongs in the appropriate process with the competent parties.
