THE ESSENTIALS
Before you start
- Compare the same period.
- Check insured amounts and benefits.
- Request an explanation of the change.
The key distinction
The ASISA Vida wording consulted relates premium calculation to actuarial age and the insured amount. That formula is product-specific and does not replace reading another policy.

A decision in practice
Fictional example: Nuno compares two policy years and sees that the insured amount fell while the premium rose. Rather than immediately assuming an error, he asks for an explanation, comparing the same period, benefits and payment frequency. He identifies any changes he requested separately.
The next step
Ask for an understandable breakdown and, where available, a projection clearly distinguished from guaranteed amounts. When considering an alternative, compare definitions, exclusions and acceptance conditions too. A lower starting price does not establish future cost or justify interrupting existing protection before the replacement has been confirmed.
