THE ESSENTIALS
Before you start
- Identify the owner and who held the item.
- Describe the purpose and circumstances of use.
- Clarify the rule for borrowed property.
Explain your relationship with the object
In the fictional story, Inês does not yet know the extent of the damage. Clara suggests preserving the known sequence and obtaining a repair assessment through the indicated process. Before assuming an insurance payment, she organises the purpose of the loan and the circumstances of the fall.
Identify the purpose of the loan, who used the projector and the circumstances of the fall. Separate ownership, use and custody: they are different aspects of the same situation. Do not turn an informal conversation about repairs into confirmation that an insurance payment is due.
Find the rule for property in your custody
Fidelidade presents Family Liability with an extracontractual liability scope and specific options. The general presentation consulted does not expressly resolve the borrowed-projector scenario. The rule must be checked in the actual contract rather than filling the gap with a promise of cover or a refusal.
Ask the intermediary how the policy treats property borrowed, entrusted to or used by the insured person and what information allows the situation to be assessed. Request a reference to the applicable terms. An answer about an object that was never in your custody may not answer the scenario you described.
Separate the account from the liability assessment
Prepare a factual account: known date, location, participants and observed sequence. Distinguish what you saw from what somebody told you. If photographs or a repair assessment exist, ask how they should be provided in the process. Do not post the owner’s documents or personal details to obtain opinions in public comments.
Keep the report reference and any request for additional information. Receipt of a request does not establish acceptance of liability or a payment decision. Before making commitments on behalf of an insurer, ask the intermediary about the procedure; this article does not determine anybody’s legal liability.
Use the appropriate next contact
If damage has already occurred under an existing policy, use the reporting or support channel stated in that contract. To consider a new quotation in Portugal, read the Family Liability guide on rmachado.group and select RC Familiar on the website, explaining your objective. A new quotation should not be presented as a retrospective solution to known damage.
KEEP THESE QUESTIONS
Your checklist for the next conversation
- Identify ownership, use and custody of the item.
- Describe the facts and purpose of the loan.
- Locate the clause for borrowed or entrusted property.
- Use the existing policy process or prepare a future quotation, as appropriate.
FROM THE ARTICLE TO YOUR SITUATION
Let us discuss your situation
Tell us what you want to protect. We review your request and help compare relevant terms. Requesting a quotation does not activate insurance.
