THE ESSENTIALS
Before you start
- Keep the itemised estimate.
- Identify inspection status.
- Confirm accepted work.
Inspection is an identifiable stage
Zurich’s motor claims FAQs treat arranging an inspection as a distinct step. This example helps distinguish assessment of the vehicle from the garage’s estimate. Ask the claims handler to identify the current status and the communication that establishes how the proposed repair should proceed.

When additional damage appears
Fictional example: a garage estimates a bumper repair and discovers another damaged part during authorised dismantling. Clara asks for the change to be recorded and submitted to the claim. She does not assume acceptance of the first amount automatically includes the second. She retains the answer and clarifies any expense she would bear herself.
Check what the authorisation actually covers
Before instructing the garage, clarify the work, amount, excess and any reservations. If the vehicle cannot be driven safely, seek guidance on suitable storage or transport. Read RMACHADO GROUP’s motor guide to understand how cover, damage assessment and management of repairs relate to each other under your actual insurance contract.
