THE ESSENTIALS
Before you start
- Ask for an explanation if the reason is unclear; identify the disagreement when complaining.
- An acknowledgement does not decide the substance of the request.
- Keep the complaint and reply for any subsequent step.
Give the communication a clear purpose
Regulatory Standard 7/2022-R distinguishes complaints from information or clarification requests and communications within claims handling. It provides for written complaints on a durable medium, with identification, the complainant’s capacity, contacts and facts. Simply resending documents may not express the disagreement you intend to raise.
As an editorial method, Sofia first writes what is missing: ‘I do not understand the refusal’ or ‘I understand the stated reason but disagree for this reason’. Clara suggests linking the question to the correct expense and reference without this article deciding whether the refusal was valid.
Prepare a timeline that fits on a page
Sofia gathers the expense date, submission date, assigned reference and response date. She lists the invoice and reply as separate entries. If two references appear, she asks which one concerns this expense rather than forwarding the entire history to several recipients.
Clara helps her separate the amount requested, any amount paid and the amount disputed. She does not add them as if they were three expenses. The bill affects the family budget, but that pressure does not establish an insurer’s payment obligation. The timeline makes the question verifiable.
Clarification and disagreement need different replies
For clarification, identify what you do not understand and ask for the relevant clause, document or missing item. In a complaint, explain the position challenged, relevant facts and review sought. Use the insurer’s designated complaints channel and check its current requirements.
Keep the submitted wording, relevant attachments and delivery evidence. An automated acknowledgement does not answer the argument. If a reply does not address the issue, identify the specific point still unexplained. Do not post medical reports or copy unnecessary recipients simply to attract attention.
Choose the next step according to its role
ASF’s information directs the initial complaint to the insurer and distinguishes the ombudsman’s role from supervision. ASF considers compliance with rules; it does not decide compensation in individual disputes. Each channel requires checking its eligibility conditions and the state of the file.
If the issue remains unresolved, retain the initial complaint and any reply, and check the current channels on the Consumer Portal. This guide does not calculate litigation deadlines or advise waiting before obtaining appropriate support. A future health quotation is a separate task: it does not reopen the previous expense or provide retrospective protection.
KEEP THESE QUESTIONS
Your checklist for the next conversation
- Identify whether you need an explanation, file completion or a review of the decision.
- Link the expense, reference and timeline, separating requested, paid and disputed amounts.
- Submit disagreement through the proper channel and retain wording, attachments and delivery evidence.
- Check the next channel’s role and conditions without disclosing medical information publicly.
