THE ESSENTIALS
Before you start
- Keep the original invoice.
- Identify currency and date.
- Separate bank charges.
The contract supplies the rule
The ASISA PLUS and PREMIUM terms checked use Banco de Portugal’s exchange rate on the expense date. This is a product example. Another contract may work differently; a card conversion charge should also remain separate from the price of the medical service.

Two documents with different jobs
Fictional example: Inês pays for an appointment in London. She keeps the £200 invoice and card evidence without editing the invoice currency. Her request identifies the service date and flags the bank conversion separately. She avoids supplying only a bank statement, which does not establish the service or the patient.
Prepare a traceable calculation
Before estimating a reimbursement, check the territorial scope, eligibility of the service and conversion rule. Ask whether translation or an itemised breakdown is required. Retain the original amount even if the form requests euros. Read RMACHADO GROUP’s health insurance guide when comparing arrangements that may involve treatment outside Portugal.
