Your baby has arrived: are they enrolled in the health policy?

A birth is a useful moment to prepare a short health insurance administration checklist. Having a parent insured should not be treated as proof that the baby has been enrolled. Look for specific confirmation of the child's inclusion and the terms that apply to them under the actual policy.

THE ESSENTIALS

Before you start

  • Prepare enrolment before the birth.
  • Check your policy's requirements.
  • Separate a request from confirmed enrolment.

Requirements belong to the particular product

The Bebé Médis page sets out specific terms for enrolment within the first 30 days, including requirements concerning a parent's insurance history and uninterrupted hospitalisation cover. It explains that these terms do not depend on activating the Bebé programme. Confirm how they apply to the particular policy rather than transferring them to another product.

Make a checklist both parents can use

Fictional example: Ana and Miguel are organising their baby's first month. Before the birth, they record the support contact, the document containing the rules and who will make the request. After the birth, they note when they submitted it and the reference received. Any missing item remains clearly marked. An automatic acknowledgement is filed as evidence of receipt, rather than acceptance of enrolment or authorisation for healthcare. That distinction makes the outstanding work easier to follow.

Close the request with four answers

Ask for confirmation of the enrolled person, effective date, benefits and applicable individual terms. Also record any further step required before using the insurance. If the reply gives a different date from the one requested, clarify it promptly through the responsible entity's channel. Keep the final version in a folder accessible to the parents, rather than circulating the baby's documents in group chats. The purpose is for either parent to find reliable information without depending on someone else's memory of a telephone conversation.

Prepare the administration in advance

Use the health insurance guide to organise questions before your baby arrives and ask RMACHADO GROUP for assistance. Early preparation makes it easier to identify what has been confirmed and what remains outstanding.

KEEP THESE QUESTIONS

Your checklist for the next conversation

  • Find the enrolment rules.
  • Confirm documents and applicable deadlines.
  • Keep the request reference.
  • Obtain the effective date in writing.
