Hearing aid: do purchase, replacement and repair use the same benefit?

THE ESSENTIALS

Before you start

  • Separate devices from services.
  • Identify prescription requirements.
  • Check intervals and limits.

Distinguish the situations

The Prostheses and Orthoses special condition in Médis individual terms dated August 2025 includes hearing aids where that benefit is contracted, within the particular conditions’ limits. This is an example, not a product recommendation or confirmation of D. Graça’s policy.

That acquisition provision does not establish that all maintenance, batteries or follow-up visits are eligible. Clara requests an answer for each expense, leaving unresolved anything the document read does not establish.

Fictional example

D. Graça receives an estimate for two devices, initial fitting, batteries and follow-up visits. Clara helps her separate the purchase from the services and ask how a future replacement would be assessed. Amounts are not changed to bring them closer to a limit: the information should reflect what will actually be supplied.

Put the distinction to work

Confirm the available benefit, any prescription requirements and the permitted interval for another purchase. Compare the eligible amount with your personal cost, leaving unanswered items visibly unresolved. A later repair should be presented as a different expense from the initial purchase. Through the health insurance guide, RMACHADO GROUP can help organise that comparison without taking over the clinical choice of a device or predicting reimbursement.
