THE ESSENTIALS
Before you start
- Identify objectives over time.
- Distinguish level capital from a decreasing rule.
- Clarify updates and information used.
Separate objectives before choosing an amount
Fictional example: a couple reviews protection linked to a mortgage and also asks how to describe family commitments with a different timetable. They do not add figures to create an imaginary claim payment. They list objectives and periods to discuss with the intermediary without concluding that one option resolves everything.
Identify what you want to understand: a relationship with debt, protection for a period or another commitment. Do not automatically turn the description into a recommended amount. Suitability depends on assessment of circumstances and terms; preparation helps identify the questions rather than replacing that assessment. Keep information current and distinguish confirmed commitments from estimates.
Ask for the evolution rule, not just the label
In its Vida Domus presentation, PRÉVOIR distinguishes level and decreasing sums insured and describes update arrangements. It is an example of a mortgage-related product, not evidence that every life contract follows the same rule or serves the same objectives.
For the quotation considered, ask how the sum evolves, which information it uses and what happens when that information changes. Check whether an update is automatic or requested in the particular case. Do not assume debt and insured capital always coincide merely because the insurance is associated with credit.

Compare matching dates and benefits
Use the same reference dates for quotations and request an explanation of the sum applicable at each date. Separate the amount from each benefit’s calculation rule. A larger number on a sheet does not prove the quotation better addresses your intended event; definitions and terms matter too.
Do not conclude that a level sum means a level premium or that decreasing capital guarantees a lower price. Ask about both evolutions separately and retain the assumptions used. This article neither recommends amending or cancelling insurance nor determines a payment due to any person. Unresolved differences should remain visible in the comparison.
Bring the objective to the discussion
Read the Life guide on rmachado.group and select Vida for a new assessment in Portugal. Explain the purpose and periods you want clarified. Medical information and personal documents should only use the appropriate channel indicated, never public comments. A quotation supports assessment; it does not prove acceptance, issue or protection in force.
