Does being on sick leave mean life insurance pays?

Temporary absence from work and permanent disability raise different life-insurance questions. Before requesting a quotation in Portugal, identify the event you want clarified and the benefit proposed for it. Do not conclude that sick leave triggers a capital payment simply because disability appears in the quotation. This guide helps compare benefits without assessing work capacity or anyone’s clinical circumstances. An informative example is not a decision on an individual claim.

THE ESSENTIALS

Before you start

  • Separate temporary and permanent events.
  • Check which benefits are included.
  • Read payment calculation and duration.

Describe the objective without claiming an entitlement

Fictional example: André wants to understand what to ask about a temporary work interruption and a lasting incapacity. He does not post medical reports in comments or ask an intermediary to predict a clinical decision. He prepares two separate lines for assessment: a temporary event and the contractual definition of permanent disability. He leaves both answers open until the proposed benefits are clear. A sick-leave document and an insurer’s decision about a benefit are separate matters and must not be recorded as equivalent.

Distinguish the event from the payment method

PRÉVOIR's Vida Domus distinguishes temporary total incapacity from disability, with separate benefits. In your quotation, check whether each benefit exists, its definition and payment calculation. Read waiting periods, minimum duration and limits in that product's documents; do not import terms from another policy.

Read every requirement rather than one percentage

ASISA’s Life terms contain product-specific disability definitions. An acronym or percentage alone does not replace the remaining contractual requirements. Ask how permanence, professional activity and supporting evidence are considered under the relevant clause. Do not turn a classification given for another purpose into a promise of an insurance payment. Medical documentation and claim assessment follow the insurer’s appropriate process. This article neither decides eligibility nor interprets an individual medical report, and it should not be used to predict the result of one.
