THE ESSENTIALS
Before you start
- Identify the submitted treatment plan.
- Check sessions, procedures and validity.
- Separate clinical decisions from cover.
The key distinction
The Multicare wording consulted includes physical medicine and rehabilitation among treatments requiring network authorisation. That example does not define every insurer's procedure.

A decision in practice
Fictional example: Luís receives a clinical recommendation for a course of sessions. The provider submits the plan and receives a response. Before arranging the full course, he checks the authorised number, procedures and validity. When a professional later proposes another technique, he asks whether the revised plan needs assessment.
The next step
Leave clinical decisions with the healthcare professional and handle financial confirmation separately. Compare completed sessions with authorised sessions rather than assuming a remaining monetary balance means unrestricted appointments. If treatment is to continue, request the procedure for a further application. A missed appointment or additional session also needs its own clarification about any personal charge.
