Working through a consortium: does individual professional insurance automatically follow?

The project resembles your usual work, but its structure has changed: you are participating in a consortium or another association. Your professional title does not describe that arrangement. Before relying on an individual declaration, explain who contracts, who performs and in which capacity.

THE ESSENTIALS

Before you start

  • Describe structure and roles.
  • Identify the contracting party.
  • Check the insured person or entity.

Read the specific distinction

The public group-policy information from APAP (Associação Portuguesa de Arquitectos Paisagistas) excludes projects undertaken as a member of a consortium or similar association. This is a limit of that scheme, not a universal exclusion. Identify the project structure in your insurance enquiry.

A fictional example

Fictional example: a landscape architect prepares a project with other organisations. She identifies the collaboration structure and asks whether her group declaration addresses that arrangement. She does not simply change the client name in an older declaration. The example confirms no contractual obligation, cover or acceptance of supplementary insurance.

Prepare a clear review

Prepare roles, tasks, the contracting entity and any insurance requirement received. Request an answer identifying the person or organisation actually insured and the particular project. Separate partners’ policies from protection for the joint arrangement. Retain terms and issued documents before presenting confirmation to a client: sending an enquiry does not establish accepted scope or a suitable declaration. Mark unresolved requirements clearly so that a commercial commitment does not rest on an assumed insurance response.

Discuss your insurance question

On rmachado.group select RC Profissional and explain this question for an insurance review. An enquiry does not confirm acceptance or cover; personal documents belong only in the indicated appropriate process.

KEEP THESE QUESTIONS

Your checklist for the next conversation

  • Describe structure and roles.
  • Identify the contracting party.
  • Check the insured person or entity.
  • Separate partner policies.
  • Confirm the specific declaration.
