GETTING STARTED

Three points to consider

  • Identify the profession, services and any contractual or legal requirements.
  • Confirm the sum insured, excess and treatment of defence costs.
  • Clarify retroactive cover and the policy’s event or claim timing requirements.

Describe the profession and services provided

State the specific activity, qualifications where relevant, clients and countries where you provide services. The profession’s name may not reveal all the work you actually do.

If a client, professional body or contract requires a guarantee, provide the requirement for assessment. Suitability depends on the scope required and the terms accepted by the insurer.

Professional error and operational liability

A claim connected with a professional service has a different basis from an accident on the premises. Professional indemnity and operational liability can complement each other.

Compare damage covered, defence costs, the sum insured and excess. Check exclusions linked to particular activities or contractual commitments.

When did the event occur and when was the claim made?

Some policies place particular importance on the claim date and a retroactive date. Clarify notification deadlines and what happens when changing insurer or ceasing activity.

A known claim must be declared. Do not cancel the previous policy without assessing continuity of protection over time.

A question to clarify before deciding

Are the service and the people performing it expressly included?

The product examples mentioned in the frequently asked questions illustrate possible differences. They are not an offer from RMACHADO and do not show that a particular cover is included in your policy. Availability, acceptance and terms must be confirmed in the specific quotation.

Frequently asked questions

Do all professions have the same obligations?

No. The framework depends on the profession and applicable requirements. The specific requirement should be checked before taking out insurance.

Does a new policy resolve a claim already known about?

Do not assume cover. Declare existing facts and claims for the insurer’s assessment.

Is a new service covered by the general name of the profession?

The insured activity must be stated expressly in the terms. Describe the service and confirm its inclusion.

Can employees’ errors be included?

Arrangements for employees and authorised representatives exist. Check who is covered and under what conditions they act.

Does the sum insured provide unlimited compensation?

Lusitania’s information limits the benefit to the sum stated in the policy schedule. Compare that limit and the remaining terms.

THE NEXT STEP

A review starts with your details.

Prepare the request, check the summary and submit it when correct. A record is created only after final submission; the request does not activate insurance.
