THE ESSENTIALS
Before you start
- Identify both benefits in the actual proposal.
- Ask which operates first and how expenses are assessed.
- Keep the response about people, period and evidence.
Two headings deserve two questions
MAPFRE Casa terms 34020241000 distinguish temporary loss of use from assistance for an uninhabitable home. The former requires permanent residence, an insured event and the period essential for reinstatement; it operates where corresponding Apoio à Casa 24H benefits are absent or exhausted. This is a specific contractual example, not a product recommendation.
The current product page presents loss of use as an option and assistance under another heading. Sofia does not turn that arrangement into a promise about her own policy. She asks about each line in the proposal: what is included, what is optional and where limits are recorded. A public description does not add a benefit that was never purchased.

Identify the additional expense in the calculation
In the cited terms, loss of use requires supporting records and deducts ordinary costs avoided. Assistance requires a request to the insurer, which must establish uninhabitability; services not requested are excluded. Check the wording applicable to your case rather than extending these conditions to every insurer.
An organisational exercise using fictional figures: Sofia records a 24-euro restaurant meal and 9 euros of ordinary spending she did not incur. The arithmetic difference is 15 euros; this is neither an indemnity nor a reimbursement rule. Clara uses it only to show why an invoice and an additional cost provide different information. Assessment still depends on the benefit and supporting records.
Separate building works, accommodation and storage
To prepare the discussion, Sofia makes three information groups: home repairs, temporary accommodation for the family, and possible transport or storage of belongings. She records who would need accommodation, practical requirements and expenses she can document. She does not automatically equate a hotel stay with the contractor’s estimated building-work period.
Clara adds a precise question: how is an assessment requested, and what confirmation is needed before arranging services? The response should identify the channel, case reference and scope of instructions. In a real incident, people’s safety comes first; do not remain in danger while waiting for a commercial response. This article does not assess whether a particular home is safe to occupy.
Compare protection before you need it
When reviewing a proposal, ask about the relationship between assistance and loss of use, the people considered, limits and evidence of expenses. Keep the reply with the actual terms. If the answer is merely “it includes assistance”, return to the question of where your family would stay and how that cost would be assessed.
For future protection, select Home multi-risk under Request a quote at RMACHADO and explain that you want to clarify accommodation and loss of use. If damage has already occurred, use Policy and claims support for the existing policy. A new quote neither confirms cover for that event nor authorises services or replaces necessary emergency intervention.
