THE ESSENTIALS
Before you start
- A valuables condition is not a decision about all contents.
- Compare the property category, occupancy and safekeeping requirements.
- This example’s 30 days are not a universal insurance rule.
A specific condition, not the end of the entire policy
Fidelidade Casa’s April 2026 pre-contractual information, unless otherwise agreed, restricts theft cover for certain valuables and precious metals in a permanent residence unoccupied for over 30 consecutive days. It makes an exception for safes with specified characteristics. This is a contract example, not a universal rule.
Identify the category before looking at the total
As a reading method, Henrique lists jewellery, cash, collections and other contents separately. He does not rename an item to place it in a more convenient category. Clara suggests asking for the applicable definition and identification or valuation method without copying a limit from another offer.
The aim is to ask whether an answer addresses this item, benefit and use of the home. A general statement that contents are included may leave those entries unresolved. Nor should one infer from a theft condition that every benefit for the building has ended.
Describe absence and safekeeping privately
Accurately describe the use and period to be assessed to the insurer or intermediary. Identify uncertain plans as forecasts. Do not turn an occasional visit into an accepted occupancy classification or assume any safe meets the policy requirement.
Clara helps Henrique frame a specific question: which wording applies, what information is missing and how will any accepted change be documented? Planning should protect property and privacy. Do not post absence dates, the address, storage locations, jewellery photos or security details in comments.
Compare offers against the actual need
Retain the reply, offer version and assumptions used in the assessment. If the period or use changes, present it for clarification; sending a message does not prove new terms have been accepted. The review does not end with the monthly premium.
At RMACHADO, select Home to request a quotation and explain that you need to clarify valuables and an extended absence. The first contact can begin with that need without sensitive inventories. An enquiry does not activate protection or establish that every item will be accepted.
KEEP THESE QUESTIONS
Your checklist for the next conversation
- Separate valuables from other contents and ask for the category definition.
- Compare occupancy, the planned period and safekeeping terms in the actual offer.
- Obtain a written answer and confirmation of any accepted change.
- Use private channels for security details and request a quotation for the actual need.
