GETTING STARTED
Three points to consider
- State destinations, dates and the number of travellers.
- Clarify assistance, medical expense and repatriation limits.
- Confirm covered cancellation reasons and excluded activities.
Before buying: destination, dates and activities
A weekend trip and an extended stay may need different protection. State all countries, relevant connections, dates and who is travelling. Work abroad, sports and adventure activities should be identified before taking out insurance.
When you bought the trip and when you request insurance may matter for certain benefits. Do not assume a known situation becomes covered by taking out insurance afterwards.
Assistance is not the same as cancellation
Confirm assistance contacts, authorisation procedures and whether you must pay expenses upfront. Medical expenses, transport and repatriation have their own limits and terms.
Cancellation or curtailment does not mean every change of plan is compensated. Compare the specified reasons and required evidence. For baggage, distinguish delay, loss and damage, including duties to notify the carrier.
Example: a connecting journey with equipment
If you travel with a connection and valuable equipment, clarify missed connections, per-item limits and treatment of checked baggage. Keep bookings and receipts. This example helps prepare questions; the answer depends on the covers taken out.
A question to clarify before deciding
Is the intended baggage cover expressly included, and in which situations?
The product examples mentioned in the frequently asked questions illustrate possible differences. They are not an offer from RMACHADO and do not show that a particular cover is included in your policy. Availability, acceptance and terms must be confirmed in the specific quotation.
What to compare in a quotation
Use these questions to clarify differences that could affect your decision.
| Comparison point | Question to clarify |
|---|---|
| Territory | Are all destinations and activities included? |
| Assistance | What limits and authorisations apply? |
| Cancellation | Which reasons are covered and what deadlines apply? |
Frequently asked questions
Can I take out insurance after starting the trip?
That depends on the product’s acceptance rules. Give the actual dates and confirm acceptance before assuming protection exists.
Does a health card replace travel insurance?
They are different instruments. Consider assistance, transport, baggage and other travel risks separately from healthcare.
Is baggage included in every plan?
In the Lusitania example consulted, it is optional cover. Confirm that it has been selected and check the quotation’s scope.
Are destination and duration relevant when preparing the assessment?
Lusitania’s information identifies both as application details. State the actual itinerary and period, including the stay.
Are treatment expenses and permanent disability the same benefit?
No. The table consulted distinguishes treatment reimbursement from a disability benefit, each with its own rules.
THE NEXT STEP
A review starts with your details.
Prepare the request, check the summary and submit it when correct. A record is created only after final submission; the request does not activate insurance.
