GETTING STARTED

Three points to consider

  • Distinguish self-employment from employment.
  • Declare duties and earnings accurately.
  • Keep team and activity information up to date.

Who is this protection for?

Occupational accident insurance is compulsory for employees and self-employed workers under the applicable Portuguese rules. The classification and way the policy is arranged should be confirmed for the specific situation.

Do not confuse this protection with personal accident insurance. Although both concern accidents, they have different purposes and terms. If you carry out more than one activity, describe them to the intermediary so the request can be assessed correctly.

Which consequences of an accident are considered?

The occupational accident framework provides for assistance and benefits relating to the consequences of the accident under the applicable rules. The nature of the event, its connection to work and the person’s circumstances matter to the assessment.

Clarify the reporting procedure and contact details to use. Having a policy does not allow you to conclude in advance that every event will qualify as an occupational accident or give rise to a particular benefit.

Individual, fixed-premium and variable-premium arrangements

The form allows requests under Individual, Fixed Premium and Variable Premium arrangements. The selection organises the initial information and should be confirmed with the intermediary according to the activity, people covered and policy rules.

For team arrangements, clarify how workers are identified and how starters, leavers and earnings are reported. A change to the team may require updated information even if the business activity stays the same.

Why does accurate declaration of earnings matter?

Declared earnings affect benefit calculations. Declaring less than actual earnings may leave additional liability with the employer. Confirm the pay components to include and the documents applicable to your case.

For self-employment, clarify the earnings basis and appropriate classification. Do not choose an amount solely to reduce the premium without understanding its effect on protection.

Changes in duties and work away from the usual location

Travel, new tasks and changes in activity should be assessed to keep the risk description current. For work abroad, confirm territorial scope and what must be reported in advance.

For example, a business moving from administrative work to also carrying out installations at clients’ sites should explain that change. This illustrates the importance of actual duties without determining how any event would be classified.

Documents and details to prepare for a quotation

For individual activity, prepare the CAE code, occupation, monthly earnings and current insurer. For fixed- or variable-premium arrangements, the form collects current policy and insurer details; variable premium also requires the number of employees and estimated payroll.

If you are starting out and do not yet have a policy, explain this to the intermediary. The desired date in the request is not confirmation of policy issuance; confirm the effective start of protection before considering it guaranteed.

A question to clarify before deciding

Are the planned business trips covered, and what assistance can be used?

The product examples mentioned in the frequently asked questions illustrate possible differences. They are not an offer from RMACHADO and do not show that a particular cover is included in your policy. Availability, acceptance and terms must be confirmed in the specific quotation.

Frequently asked questions

Does a self-employed worker need this protection?

ASF identifies the obligation as applying to self-employed workers too. The intermediary should confirm the activity’s classification and the information needed for the policy.

Does personal accident insurance replace occupational accident insurance?

It should not be used instead of occupational accident insurance where required. Their purposes and rules differ.

Must I report new employees joining?

Check your policy’s procedures and deadlines. Information on people covered, duties and earnings must remain accurate and current.

Is the assessment limited to accidents inside the premises?

The Lusitania information consulted also includes the normal journey between home and work. Classification depends on the specific circumstances.

Does compensation consist only of a cash payment?

The protection distinguishes benefits in kind and cash benefits. Consider care and recovery as well as monetary benefits.

Does a business trip abroad need its own check?

Confirm territorial scope and assistance. The existence of assistance does not prove that every event abroad is covered.

THE NEXT STEP

A review starts with your details.

Prepare the request, check the summary and submit it when correct. A record is created only after final submission; the request does not activate insurance.
