Does a cargo sum insured include freight and packing?

The goods invoice, packing and freight may appear in separate documents. Adding everything without understanding the proposed valuation rule is no more useful than considering the product price alone. A cargo enquiry should identify the interests being examined and how they are valued.

THE ESSENTIALS

Before you start

  • Separate goods and charges.
  • Avoid duplicate amounts.
  • Identify currency and route.

Read the relevant distinction

Generali Tranquilidade’s business-insurance page mentions potential insured interests beyond the transported goods, including special packing, freight, taxes and expected profit. A commercial possibility does not establish inclusion in your policy. Request the valuation basis and the costs actually taken into account.

A fictional example

Fictional example: a business prepares a shipment of equipment valued at €8,000 with freight invoiced separately. The manager makes a table of goods value, packing and freight, identifying the source of each figure. She does not label the total an accepted insured sum or add an arbitrary margin. This prepares an enquiry without calculating a claim payment or deciding which expenses qualify.

Prepare an answerable enquiry

Connect the proposed sum to the shipment and policy type under discussion. Check currency, route, transport methods and the insurer’s requested valuation basis. Avoid counting charges twice when already included in an invoice. Mark missing components as unresolved. Compare premiums only after establishing whether proposals use the same insured interest and valuation basis, retaining the supporting calculation for review.

Discuss the insurance need

On rmachado.group select Transportes and explain this question to prepare an insurance review. An enquiry does not confirm acceptance or cover. Share personal documents only through the indicated appropriate channel.
