The hunter is injured: does having liability insurance include treatment expenses?

Proof of liability insurance serves a particular purpose but does not explain every aspect of a hunter’s personal protection. If the hunter is injured, the question is which personal accident or assistance benefits cover that person and activity, rather than simply the size of the liability limit.

THE ESSENTIALS

Before you start

  • Liability for damage to others does not establish protection for the hunter’s own injuries.
  • Assistance and treatment expenses can be separate benefits.
  • A permanent disability benefit and expense reimbursement address different needs.

One product’s plans show the distinction

The Fidelidade Caçadores offer consulted distinguishes liability, assistance and personal accident cover. Calibre II lists death or permanent disability and treatment expenses; the option described as mandatory does not list those same benefits. This example shows why the selected plan matters without defining every hunting policy.

Ask about three different consequences

One question concerns arranging assistance, another concerns treatment expenses following the accident and a third concerns any benefit for permanent disability. Write them separately and request the insured person, limit and conditions relevant to each answer. Avoid reducing them to a single statement that you are protected.

Fictional example: a hunter falls and needs care, but there is no conclusion about lasting effects. Any assessment of expenses and of permanent disability concerns different matters. An invoice does not establish disability, and opening a claim does not mean that any benefit has been accepted.

Check the activity, journey and companions

Describe the type of hunting and intended locations when requesting information. Ask about the time and territorial scope of personal protection, including whether journeys require an extension. If someone accompanies you, explain that need without assuming an individual policy includes everyone present.

Locate exclusions applicable to the benefit you may need. Do not use an answer about liability or damage to a firearm to determine how the hunter’s own injuries are treated. Retain the date and version of any explanation so it can be compared with the proposal.

After an accident, organise the right person’s claim

Prioritise urgent care and subsequently report the event through the appropriate contacts. Collect a factual account, the insured person’s identification and evidence requested by the insurer. Clinical documents should use authorised channels, keeping health information out of groups and social posts.

When requesting a quotation from RMACHADO, explain that you want to assess personal protection alongside liability. Ask specific questions about treatment, disability, assistance and companions where relevant. A request does not confirm cover or guarantee reimbursement; the decision depends on the contract and insurer’s assessment.
