THE ESSENTIALS
Before you start
- Identify the application and answer needing correction.
- Delivery of a correction is different from risk acceptance.
- Use the specified health-information channel and preserve applicable legal rights.
Accuracy matters after submission too
Article 24 of Portugal's insurance contract regime requires accurate disclosure of known relevant circumstances before contracting. The insurer must explain that duty and the consequences of failing to comply.
Questions about legally protected genetic information or the right to be forgotten require separate clarification. This guide does not recommend disclosing protected data or deciding unaided which medical history to omit.
Identify the error without rewriting events
Marta records the application reference, the question, the answer sent and the correction she wants to make. Clara suggests keeping the sequence rather than restarting in another application without referring to the first. Marta does not change other answers for convenience or present an estimated date as confirmed.
If a question is unclear, describe the uncertainty and ask what information it seeks. Distinguishing a typing error, an unconfirmed detail and a misunderstood question is more useful than merely saying that the entire questionnaire was wrong.
Ask about the process and keep the sequence
Ask where to submit the correction and how to link it to the original application. Establish whether a corrected form or a specific further item is needed. Supply necessary information through the appropriate channel, keeping medical reports out of public conversations and away from unnecessary recipients.
Keep the submission reference, date and acknowledgement. These help you follow the application; they do not themselves establish acceptance or validate any cover.
Clarify the outcome before relying on the policy
Ask which version was assessed and clarify the application status, conditions and effective start ultimately confirmed. Do not end other insurance merely because you sent a correction.
If the contract has already been accepted or a claim exists, say so at the outset: this is no longer just correction of a pending application. For future protection, you can start a life insurance quote enquiry with RMACHADO without including clinical details in the initial request.
KEEP THESE QUESTIONS
Your checklist for the next conversation
- Identify the application, question, error and intended correction.
- Confirm the process and appropriate health-information channel.
- Keep submission evidence and distinguish it from the insurer’s decision.
- Confirm the version assessed, terms and start before relying on protection.
