THE ESSENTIALS
Before you start
- Physical damage and economic consequences are separate questions.
- An expense extension does not automatically insure lost sales.
- Each item needs its own limits and conditions.
A useful product-document distinction
MAPFRE's current Machinery Casco page describes mobile industrial machinery and equipment and lists Overtime and Special Freight Expenses as optional. In the linked CG35120091100, special condition06 requires expenditure to shorten repair following an insured event, within agreed limits; it excludes air freight and requires documentary evidence. This is a contractual example, without a recommendation or universal rule.
Article5 of that wording distinguishes indirect losses, lost profit and consequential damage from expenses under its exceptions for special conditions05/06. An extension that accelerates repair therefore does not establish general protection for lost sales. The actual cover and damage must be checked against the policy, rather than only the product summary.

Group costs by purpose
Clara proposes a four-part record for Tiago: equipment repair, expenditure to accelerate recovery, any replacement hire and the economic effect of downtime. Each amount is matched with its supporting service or document, without placing the same invoice in two groups.
Ask the intermediary to match each group to a benefit, where one exists, and clarify prior authorisation, excess, limits and eligible costs. An option for special freight does not establish inclusion of every delivery, additional working hour or hire charge.
An example without turning an estimate into a claim payment
Fictional exercise: obtaining a part sooner could cost an extra €400 in freight, while the business estimates €3,000 in unrealised sales. The first is an acceleration expense; the second is a commercial estimate. Neither establishes, by itself, what insurance would pay. Tiago does not add projected sales to an invoice as if they were the same expense.
Record forecast and actual cost separately, with dates. Ask what evidence each item needs and how an extension relates to insured physical damage. Competent technicians must determine safe restart conditions; insurance does not authorise operation of damaged equipment.
Base the quote on dependency on the machine
When preparing future protection, Tiago describes the machine's role, parts lead times and operational alternatives. He asks for an answer for each record category, identifying the benefit, limit and costs remaining with the business. An extension's availability in a product does not prove it was purchased for this machine.
To compare solutions, request a Machinery Casco insurance quote on the RMACHADO website. For an accident that has already occurred, use Support and claims and the policy procedure before incurring expenses in expectation of reimbursement. Clara helps prepare questions; she does not approve repairs, safe restarting or payment.
KEEP THESE QUESTIONS
Your checklist for the next conversation
- Separate repair, acceleration, replacement and downtime.
- Distinguish projected sales from assessed loss.
- Confirm extensions, limits and authorisations.
- Keep records and technical assessment.
