Tyres, tools and attachments: how do they fit machinery casco insurance?

The insured-property list names the machine. Does the enquiry also describe its tools, attachments and frequently replaced parts? Check these elements when reviewing machinery casco, rather than assuming physical attachment settles cover.

THE ESSENTIALS

Before you start

  • Identify attachments and tools in the property list.
  • Read specific exclusions and any exceptions.
  • Describe wear, isolated damage and machine damage separately.

An exclusion with an exception

Article 5 of MAPFRE's public machinery casco terms, code 35120091100, addresses interchangeable tools and high-wear components including tyres, with an exception where damage accompanies total or partial destruction of the insured property.

The exception does not mean automatic payment: the event and remaining terms still matter. This document is an example; check the version and terms supplied for your proposal.

Distinguish three damage descriptions

Separate a worn part, damage confined to a component and an accident also damaging the machine. Record observations in each case without assuming a technical cause.

Fictional example: a tyre shows wear and, separately, a machine sustains impact damage to several components. Describe both events, rather than simply providing two tyre invoices. This does not decide cover or equate wear with an accident.

List attachments moved between machines

Identify the attachment, machines using it, ownership and documented value. Explain if it moves between several machines or is rented from another party.

Ask how it is identified in the insurance, which risks are accepted and which limits or excesses apply. Do not merely increase a sum insured without confirmation that the property and use are accepted.

Keep a usable review file

Retain inventories, invoices, model references and relevant maintenance records. Following damage, keep photographs and available technical descriptions for the applicable claims process.

Request a quote from RMACHADO with the fleet and attachment list for consideration. Review the full proposal terms as well as the information summary.
