Machinery has been damaged: is continued operation treated the same way?

The machine still starts but has known damage. Continued use requires competent assessment rather than an assumption about insurance. Record the first incident and distinguish later signs without turning further operation into a test of cover.

THE ESSENTIALS

Before you start

  • Record the first incident.
  • Seek competent assessment.
  • Separate damage and interventions.

Read the specific distinction

CE004 excludes damage from continued use after damage without definitive repair.

A fictional example

Fictional example: an operator notices an abnormality after an impact. The manager records the incident and requests technical assessment before determining subsequent use. He does not instruct the team to keep working until the machine stops to obtain a diagnosis. The example supplies no repair instructions, confirms no safety status and assigns no responsibility for damage.

Prepare a clear review

Preserve dates, observations, reports and work actually completed. Clarify the insurance procedure and keep technical instructions separately identifiable. When comparing future protection, ask how successive damage and maintenance duties are addressed. A functioning machine does not establish that it has been repaired or that deterioration will necessarily be assessed as an unavoidable part of the first event. Record unresolved points rather than converting an assumption into a technical conclusion.

Discuss your insurance question

KEEP THESE QUESTIONS

Your checklist for the next conversation

  • Record the first incident.
  • Seek competent assessment.
  • Separate damage and interventions.
  • Check the insurance procedure.
  • Do not equate operation with repair.
