Preparation guide · Machinery in specialist work

The machine will work in a tunnel or on a floating platform: what should casco review?

The same machine may work on a surface site and later move to a tunnel or floating platform. Describe that operation when preparing insurance. Make, model and sum insured alone leave the operating context unexplained.

THE ESSENTIALS

Before you start

  • Describe specialist conditions before operation begins.
  • Confirm the contracted condition and limits.
  • Separate equipment damage and recovery expenses.

Terms can address these operations separately

The public Machinery Casco document provided by Millennium bcp, reference GC0481-PT revised in October 2025, contains separate special conditions for machinery on floating platforms or vessels and for underground works or tunnels.

The wording connects these guarantees with the policy schedule. Their presence in general documentation establishes neither purchase nor acceptance of a particular operation.

A useful description goes beyond the address

For preparation, ask the technical lead to describe the work, machine position and how it enters and leaves the site. Identify dates, time away from base, participants and existing technical documents. Flag unresolved details.

For a platform, explain that equipment will be installed or working on a floating structure. For a tunnel, identify underground use. A generic 'construction work' description should not hide a material feature of the operation.

Prepare two cost headings

Our reading exercise separates equipment value from access and recovery expenses after an event. Ask the proposal to explain each heading, limits and excess. Do not infer recovery capacity solely from the machine's sum insured.

Fictional example: a business presents a machine valued at 200,000 euros and, with technical support, identifies potentially significant recovery costs. It requests separate insurance explanations for the machine and those expenses. The 200,000 euros is neither a quote nor a confirmed payment.

Keep confirmation for the operation described

Keep the submitted description, reply and policy schedule or endorsements actually issued. Revisit assessment if method, location or period changes rather than reusing an explanation for different circumstances.

For an event, safety and technical intervention must follow the competent professionals. This guide prepares insurance enquiries and gives no rescue instructions or engineering decisions.

Give the quote enquiry enough detail

Select Machinery Casco with RMACHADO and identify tunnel, underground, vessel or floating-platform work from the start. Terms and acceptance depend on assessment of the presented risk. Mention of a cover on a website does not confirm protection has started.

KEEP THESE QUESTIONS

Your checklist for the next conversation

  • Identify equipment and operating context.
  • Gather the operation description and dates.
  • Compare equipment, recovery, limits and excesses.
  • Keep confirmation and review relevant changes.
