Partial reimbursement: do the percentage and per-treatment limit calculate different things?

Receiving less than a percentage of the invoice does not, on its own, explain whether an error occurred. The useful question is which expense the percentage was applied to and which limit was used. An organised calculation makes a request for clarification more precise.

THE ESSENTIALS

Before you start

  • Identify the eligible amount.
  • Separate percentage from payment cap.
  • Check any deductible.

Distinguish the situations

Médis refers customers to their policy terms for the reimbursement percentage. Read that figure alongside any other limits applying to the particular expense.

Fictional example

Fictional example, unrelated to any actual policy: an appointment costs 120 euros. The exercise assumes 50% reimbursement but caps payment at 40 euros per appointment. Half of 120 is 60; under that hypothetical cap the result is 40. If only 80 euros were eligible, the calculation's starting amount would also change. These amounts are an arithmetic illustration, not an insurer's tariff or a prediction of your reimbursement.

Put the distinction to work

Compare the invoice with the reimbursement breakdown. Identify the eligible amount, percentage, per-treatment limit and any deductible; do not add or subtract figures without the contractual rule. If a difference remains unclear, identify the exact line and request its explanation. Use the health insurance guide to discuss consultation costs and the relevant terms with RMACHADO GROUP before comparing products on percentages alone.
