Seasonal stock: which business snapshot does the quotation show?

Nuno Patrício prepares purchases for a busier period at his café. In this fictional story, Clara Mota asks him to compare expected stock with the policy’s figures and dates. Holding more goods does not itself establish a higher insured amount.

THE ESSENTIALS

Before you start

  • Separate property categories.
  • Identify locations and dates.
  • Distinguish counts and estimates.

Separate stock from the other property

Nuno distinguishes goods used in the business, equipment and premises. Clara asks for a list with location and reference date so that a forecast of future purchases does not look like a completed count. If some goods change location, that needs its own enquiry.

As a preparation method, describe the growth period, expected peak and basis used to estimate value. Keep information supporting the figures. Avoid combining buildings, equipment and stock in one total without explaining the parts.

A festive increase may have a short window

Under MAPFRE 34820200900 CE 35, the increase is 25% for identified, valued stock during the 15 days before Christmas/Easter and eight afterwards. Limits and specified perils apply; floating policies are excluded and increases cannot accumulate. This illustrates a contract, not a universal rule.

The purchase date does not settle the risk period

Clara asks whether Nuno’s deliveries begin before the clause’s period or stock remains high afterwards. Nuno places goods arrival, time on the premises and the busiest days side by side. A label such as Christmas does not describe all those weeks.

For your own policy, ask which benefit is contracted, the property it concerns, the amount and the events covered. Establish whether expected growth fits the existing arrangement or requires an amendment. A clause in a public illustration does not add it to your contract.

Confirm the document addressing the change

Request confirmation of an accepted review and its effective date, with an updated version you can check. Record outstanding figures or dates as pending. A quotation does not confirm an amendment to an existing policy.
