Terrace and outdoor property: does business insurance follow them?

A restaurant may insure its contents while using some furniture outdoors all day. Describe that space in the insurance request too: an inventory focused on the interior can leave outdoor property unanswered.

THE ESSENTIALS

Before you start

  • List property kept outdoors separately.
  • Check the cover actually purchased for it.
  • Compare events, limits and storage conditions.

An optional-cover example

Fidelidade's public Multirriscos 2 page lists outdoor-property damage as optional cover. This illustrates why the policy's general name does not settle the question. The reference concerns that product and does not mean the option is included in every policy.

Ask which cover applies to your outdoor property and which documents confirm it has been purchased.

Map how the premises are used

Our suggested zones are terrace, yard, loading area and enclosed premises. For each item, record owner, documented value, whether fixed or movable, and its after-hours location. Give awnings and structures separate entries to clarify their classification.

Fictional example: a shop displays furniture in a yard during the week. Its manager privately supplies site photographs and an inventory for review, rather than assuming «shop contents» describes the entire display.

Ask about specific events

Choose events to consider, such as wind, impact or theft, and request a separate answer for each. Ask about accepted items, limits, excesses, securing requirements and storage. These questions do not imply all those risks can be insured in the same proposal.

If furniture is stored indoors for only part of the year, explain the actual routine. An answer based on a terrace that is always cleared may not address property left outside overnight.

Review changes to the space

Keep a dated inventory and the reply. Highlight changes when extending the terrace or replacing equipment.

Request a quote from RMACHADO describing the activity and spaces used. Cover, acceptance and conditions depend on the applicable proposal and policy.

KEEP THESE QUESTIONS

Your checklist for the next conversation

  • Inventory outdoor property by zone.
  • Describe values, ownership, securing and overnight storage.
  • Check cover, events, limits and excesses.
  • Keep acceptance evidence and review changes.
