GETTING STARTED
Three points to consider
- Prepare the animal’s species, identification and characteristics.
- Check the responsible people, places and situations included.
- Confirm applicable obligations, the sum insured, excesses and exclusions.
Identifying the animal and responsibility
Prepare the species, breed, age and animal identification where applicable. State who keeps the animal and how it is normally housed, transported or accompanied.
The animal’s characteristics and classification may affect requirements and acceptance. The intermediary should have this information before presenting the request.
Third-party harm and veterinary expenses
Liability for harm caused by the animal and the cost of its own veterinary treatment are different needs. Do not confuse the general description “pet insurance” with the benefits actually taken out.
For liability, clarify bodily injury, property damage, defence, the per-event limit and excess. Check who may handle or look after the animal in covered situations.
Walks, holidays and care by another person
If the animal stays with relatives or travels with you, state this use. Ask about territory and responsibility during temporary care. Preventive rules and the keeper’s legal duties remain relevant even with insurance.
A question to clarify before deciding
For which uses of the animal does liability cover apply, and which are excluded?
The product examples mentioned in the frequently asked questions illustrate possible differences. They are not an offer from RMACHADO and do not show that a particular cover is included in your policy. Availability, acceptance and terms must be confirmed in the specific quotation.
What to compare in a quotation
Use these questions to clarify differences that could affect your decision.
| Comparison point | Question to clarify |
|---|---|
| Animal | Are identification and classification recorded correctly? |
| Responsible people | Who is covered when accompanying the animal? |
| Benefits | Liability only, or veterinary expenses too? |
Frequently asked questions
Are all animals accepted on the same terms?
No. Species, characteristics, use and classification may change acceptance and the terms offered.
Does insurance remove safety duties?
No. The keeper’s applicable duties and the policy’s prevention and use conditions must be met.
Can several dogs be considered under one contract?
The Lusitania example consulted allows several dogs to be identified. Inclusion and terms must be confirmed.
Is a hunting dog protected while hunting under this product?
Lusitania’s information excludes hunting and refers to separate protection. Distinguish the animal’s category from the activity undertaken.
Does liability cover mean veterinary expenses for my animal?
The cover described concerns harm to others. It does not in itself provide protection for your animal’s own veterinary expenses.
THE NEXT STEP
A review starts with your details.
Prepare the request, check the summary and submit it when correct. A record is created only after final submission; the request does not activate insurance.
