The bicycle was locked: is that enough for theft cover?

The bicycle disappeared from the place where it was locked. The lock matters as a fact, but may not answer every condition. Before buying insurance, test usual parking scenarios. After an event, describe what is known without deciding the claim classification in advance.

THE ESSENTIALS

Before you start

  • A lock does not answer every requirement.
  • Contractual theft definitions and custody conditions matter.
  • Keep evidence without inventing signs of forced entry or a cause.

An example of conditions read together

Generali Tranquilidade's May 2025 Multi Assistência VIP limits theft to a contractual forced-entry definition and custody conditions. The definition also refers to an approved lock or an equivalent or higher-security mechanism. This specific example does not establish that every locked bicycle on a street qualifies.

Test where you actually leave the bicycle

Prepare three scenarios: a short stop during a ride, parking at work and overnight storage. Describe the place, access, custody and protection in each. Request answers for these circumstances rather than merely asking whether a theft line exists.

If custody or security-device wording is unclear, ask what it means for the described scenario. Do not interpret an approved lock as any shop-bought lock or change the declared account simply to fit an answer.

Preserve what exists after a disappearance

Fictional example: someone returns to a rack and finds only a part nearby. They record the scene and discovery, retain earlier bicycle images and gather purchase evidence. They do not describe confirmed forced entry without supporting facts.

Follow the police and policy-designated reporting procedures and check applicable deadlines. Keep references and receipts. Do not post documents, identification numbers or witness details on social media; use the case channel.

Compare the valuation basis too

Beyond the covered event, ask which documents identify the bicycle and how a potential payment is valued. Purchase cost, later value and chosen sum insured can differ. Do not present the purchase price as an amount already due.

For a RMACHADO quote, describe normal use and storage locations. The answer should show what was considered and what remains unclear without guaranteeing acceptance or cover for a particular disappearance.

KEEP THESE QUESTIONS
