Does boat insurance cover lifting ashore and transport to a workshop?

Tiago Faria prepares to take a boat out of the marina for maintenance. In this fictional story, Clara Mota asks him to separate lifting, storage, loading and transport. Protection while stored ashore does not itself confirm every stage.

THE ESSENTIALS

Before you start

  • Map every handover stage.
  • Identify participants in each operation.
  • Separate storage, lifting, transport and maintenance.

Map the handover route

Tiago arranges receipt with the workshop but has not established who handles lifting and the journey ashore. Clara helps him record each party and the outstanding questions without assigning responsibilities in advance.

Make a simple sequence: departure point, intended operation, any movement, receiving location and estimated period. Separate confirmed arrangements from possibilities. A workshop booking is not confirmation that those operations are insured.

Storage ashore does not answer every stage

Lusitania’s Pleasure Craft presentation distinguishes damage on water and ashore, referring to suitable enclosed facilities for time ashore. That description alone does not confirm lifting, road transport or maintenance work.

Ask the intermediary to clarify the quotation against your route and identify matters requiring further assessment. Do not turn ashore into a guarantee for any operation. The source is a product presentation; the particular quotation and its terms still need checking.

Resolve the questions before handover

Confirm which locations, dates and participants the answer considered. If one changes, identify the change before relying on the previous explanation. Keep the clarification reference with your handover plan without interpreting it as an assessment of the workshop’s quality.

To prepare a quotation, read the Pleasure Craft guide on rmachado.group and select Embarcação in the website request. If you already have a policy, ask the intermediary about that existing process. Do not post documents, detailed storage locations or personal information in public comments.

The road trailer is a separate check

For a road journey, identify the boat, trailer, towing vehicle and who loads, secures and unloads it separately. Ask for answers that distinguish damage to the boat from liability for injury or damage to others on the road.

Do not treat the towing vehicle’s insurance as evidence of cover for damage to the boat, or use an answer about dry storage to confirm road transport. This method organises questions; it does not determine insurance duties, responsibility or permission to use a specific vehicle combination.

KEEP THESE QUESTIONS

Your checklist for the next conversation

  • Map every handover stage.
  • Identify participants in each operation.
  • Separate storage, lifting, transport and maintenance.
  • Clarify scope before relying on inclusion.
