Hosting a +Talento intern: is the team's existing insurance enough?

Nuno Patrício is preparing for an intern to join his café and has the team's policy at hand. Clara Mota asks him to start with the programme, duties and dates. In this fictional story, a policy number is the starting point for a question; it does not prove that the new person is included. This guide addresses Estágios +Talento, a specific IEFP programme.

THE ESSENTIALS

Before you start

  • Identify the scheme and internship agreement.
  • An existing policy does not establish automatic inclusion.
  • Confirm the person, tasks and protection start date.

What the +Talento information establishes

IEFP's official Estágios +Talento page, updated 12 October 2026, states that the host entity provides work-accident insurance protection during the internship. It also distinguishes professional from curricular internships. This does not establish identical rules for every internship or training arrangement.

Prepare a short information sheet before the start

For the enquiry, gather the scheme name, agreement or application reference, planned dates and host entity. Describe the actual tasks and locations, including planned travel or remote work. Mark anything still awaiting confirmation.

Ask the intermediary how the individual must be identified, which remuneration elements or values are needed under the applicable arrangement, and which document confirms protection. Do not infer insured remuneration solely from the stipend or invent a value to complete a field.

Check against a specific starting date

In the fictional example, Nuno plans for the internship to start on a Monday. Before relying on the existing policy, he presents the plan and requests confirmation of the person, activities, locations and start date considered. Clara helps him compare the response with the internship agreement rather than reusing an old certificate for the team. The story establishes neither programme eligibility nor risk acceptance.

If the scheme, entity, dates or tasks change, submit the change for assessment. Keep the enquiry and reply with their correct versions. Sending an email or obtaining application approval does not replace confirmation of the insurance arrangement.

For a small business, organising these details before the first day helps avoid relying on incomplete answers and lets the owner compare the proposed cost with the actual terms. Nuno records what has been received in writing and what remains outstanding. An agreed start date with the person is not insurance confirmation.

The question to bring to RMACHADO

When requesting a work-accident insurance quote, explain that this is a +Talento internship and provide the necessary context through the indicated channel. For curricular internships, access-to-profession training or another programme, identify that arrangement explicitly before selecting a solution. A quote prepares assessment; it is not acceptance and does not remove prevention or workplace-safety duties.
