THE ESSENTIALS
Before you start
- In the wording examined, sales and services away from the premises enter turnover for the indemnity period.
- Amounts received or due count, rather than only money already credited to the bank account.
- Accounting for revenue does not confirm cover for property or operations at the new location.
A clause expressly addresses sales made elsewhere
In special condition 37 of MAPFRE Multirriscos Empresas wording 34820200900, article 4(5) includes in turnover for the period amounts received or due for sales or services away from the premises, carried out by the insured or someone it appoints. This is that contract’s criterion, not a universal rule for every benefit labelled business interruption.
Clara helps Nuno locate the clause in the actual proposal. Closing the café to the public and losing every source of business revenue are different situations. Do not describe sales that continued through another route as nonexistent; equally, some retained revenue alone does not establish that the interruption had no remaining impact.
Separate the closed premises from continuing trade
In this wording, turnover includes amounts received or receivable for goods sold and delivered or services provided in normal business during the relevant period. Article 4(1)(a) applies the insured gross-profit percentage to the reduction caused by the event between reference turnover and turnover achieved in the indemnity period. Off-site sales enter the latter figure.
Nuno imagines a record showing the date, transaction, amount received or still due and supporting document. He identifies operations carried out away from the café and reconciles total business revenue with the accounts. The purpose is to show what continued, without confusing the transaction date with the payment date.
Retained revenue and an indemnifiable loss are not the same figure. Ask the calculation explanation to identify how these sales were considered and which economic measure the benefit uses. Do not independently subtract each euro of sales from an insurance payment or treat all expected turnover as lost profit.
First establish which benefit was actually agreed
Article 130(2) of the Portuguese insurance contract framework requires agreement for loss-of-profit cover under property insurance. In the special condition 37 example, operation depends on insured material damage under the listed perils and the particular conditions. Insurance for the building or contents alone does not establish this economic protection. The wording sets the period by the time essential to restore normal business, up to the maximum agreed in the particular conditions, and does not allow combination with its Indirect Losses or Business Inactivity benefits.
The reference to off-site sales serves the financial assessment. Moving equipment, stock, workers or customer service elsewhere needs its own examination. Nuno should present the plan and clarify those risks before relying on protection; the calculation clause does not automatically accept the new location.

Bring revenue and costs to the claim in separate records
Keep retained sales revenue, additional costs of the temporary arrangement and costs that ceased in separate records. Ask which documents and criteria apply to each component. The same invoice should not appear as two expenses, and paying an expense alone does not establish that reimbursement has been approved.

Clara helps Nuno prepare verifiable questions; she does not approve the operating plan, cover or amount in an individual case.
