THE ESSENTIALS
Before you start
- Identify the dog and intended care arrangement.
- Check each person's insured capacity.
- Separate harm to others from injury to the carer.
Identify the insured person when reading custody wording
Allianz's public October 2023 dog-owner information note describes liability attributable to the insured in ownership or custody and refers to the dog identified in the schedule. This is a contractual example, not confirmation that every temporary carer is included.
Ask who is covered and in what capacity in the arrangement you intend to make.
Describe the absence
Our suggested note includes period, where the dog stays, walking routine and whether care is family help or a professional service. Describe changes from the declared routine and request an answer for that scenario.
Fictional example: a family leaves its dog with someone close for a week. Instead of asking only «is the dog insured?», it asks whether that person's responsibility while caring is addressed and what conditions apply. This does not determine liability for any future harm.
Ask separately about the carer
If the dog harms someone during a walk, that person's relationship with the insured may matter when reading the third-party definition. Also ask about the carer personally suffering injury.
For professional care, ask about protection concerning that provider's activity and its interaction with the dog's policy. A private policy should not be used as evidence of another entity's professional insurance.
Keep confirmation before relying on inclusion
The reviewed Allianz document also identifies exclusions concerning professional use and liabilities subject to specific compulsory insurance. Check the appropriate product rather than transferring an answer from another setting.
RMACHADO can help prepare a quote or review using the care scenario. For an event that has already occurred, follow the policy reporting process without promising cover or payment.
