Leased machinery needs repair: do requested improvements belong in the same insurance bill?

A repair may provide an opportunity to request a modification or improvement. Even where intervention is needed, the estimate should not merge costs serving different purposes. Separate restoration of damage from a change the business would like to make.

THE ESSENTIALS

Before you start

  • Itemise repairs and improvements.
  • Keep the former-condition record.
  • Check necessary approvals.

A fictional example

Fictional example: a workshop receives a repair estimate and also asks about adding a function to its machine. It requests two separate items and keeps the improvement apart from damage-related work. It does not present the entire amount as indispensable restoration. The illustration approves no repairs and authorises no alteration of a financed asset.

Prepare a clear review

Keep the technical description, former condition, estimate items and instructions received. Establish who must approve work and possible alterations within the lease arrangement. For future protection, identify the equipment as it will stand after an improvement actually completed. An intention or estimate does not automatically update the insured asset, sum or lessor’s interests. Confirm effects through the proper procedure, retaining the distinction between requested, authorised and completed work.

Discuss your insurance question

KEEP THESE QUESTIONS

Your checklist for the next conversation
